Nobody cares what you ate for breakfast. Blogging done well can be a creative outlet, a source of valuable information, and a way to connect with people who share common interests. But nobody cares what you had for breakfast. Facebook, twitter, and Instagram are much better locations for anecdotal thoughts and pictures, in my opinion. A blog is not limited by characters so it calls for more thought and a greater time commitment. Posts generally happen less often but are more meaningful.
This is the perfect outlet for photography and videography geeks who want to share their latest photo or video adventures and the settings they used, not to mention the results of their hard work. Fellow photographers and videographers from around the world connect regularly in this way.
I hearby encourage all of my students to find and follow a handful of accomplished, and maybe not so accomplished, multimedia professional's blog posts for the purpose of continuing education and mentoring. Start a blog, document your life, its adventures, and the people in those adventures.
